Nordic Expert Workshop

Knowledge Transfer from Universities and Public Research Institutes:
Strategic Approaches for Innovation Uptake and Knowledge Flow

1 June 2011, 9.15 - 16.15 hrs
University of Gothenburg, School of Business, Economics and Law
Gothenburg, Sweden

Universities and public research organisations in Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Sweden increasingly acknowledge the importance of knowledge transfer to business. However, concepts for joint research with industry, intellectual property management, and university spin-offs are often still fragmentary. Furthermore, open innovation partnerships have a growing international dimension and require more sophisticated strategies for knowledge management both on a national and European level. This workshop discussed challenges and good examples of knowledge transfer as well as ways towards systematic approaches.

This workshop supported the implementation of the European Commission's 2008 Recommendation on the management of intellectual property in knowledge transfer activities and Code of Practice for universities and public research organisations (http://ec.europa.eu/invest-in-research/pdf/ip_recommendation_en.pdf). The event was part of a workshop series covering 39 European countries in 2011 and 2012. It took place in co-location with the CIP Forum 2011 (http://www.cipforum.org), an international conference with the core theme of the building of business in the knowledge economy.

Target groups

The workshop convened stakeholders in knowledge transfer, in particular from universities, public research organisations, knowledge transfer agencies, policy and industry. Attendance was on invitation only.
