10 February 2011, 9.30 – 16.15 hrs
Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Garden Building
Hannoversche Straße 28-30, 10115 Berlin, Germany
While German universities and public research organisations increasingly acknowledge the importance of knowledge transfer to business, comprehensive approaches are still rare. Concepts for joint research with industry, intellectual property management, and university spin-offs are often fragmentary; knowledge transfer personnel is often untrained and inexperienced. This workshop discussed the current state of knowledge transfer in Germany, known barriers and emerging challenges, good practices from other countries, and ways towards more systematic approaches.
This workshop was a key event related to the policies in the European Commission's 2008 Recommendation on the management of intellectual property in knowledge transfer activities and Code of Practice for universities and public research organisations . The event was part of a workshop series covering 39 European countries in 2011 and 2012.
Findings from ongoing surveys in the framework of the Knowledge Transfer Study were presented in order to provide the participants with up-to-date information of knowledge transfer practice, barriers and policies in Germany and Europe.
The workshop convened stakeholders active in knowledge transfer, in particular from universities, public research organisations, knowledge transfer agencies, policy and industry. Attendance was possible on invitation only.
